Does e-mail marketing still work?

To some, this may seem like a crazy question. However, this can often be a marketing point that is overlooked by many companies and organizations especially when starting out for the first time.

The truth is that e-mail marketing isn't just alive, it's growing! According to Radicati e-mail usage by 2020 will have grown to almost half of the world's population to over 3 billion accounts. That's a lot of accounts! By 2019, there will be an estimated 246 billion e-mails being sent every day!! Isn't that amazing? So if you feel like you've fallen behind, don't worry, there's still plenty of time to start building an e-mail list and getting your message out there.

Here are a few tips that we suggest to get you started:

What platform do we suggest?

Mailchimp is pretty much the industry standard for newsletters (it's what we use!) They have very trusted servers that ensure deliverability. The best part is you can start free and only have to pay once you have considerable volume. The process is so easy!

Don't spam people!

It may be tempting but don't do it. Forcing your message on people that don't know you are is never a good idea and it's the fastest way to get banned. It will take time, but build your e-mail list with people who opt-in and actually want to hear from you. Your open rate and click rate (how many people actually open your e-mail and click on links inside) will be much better this way!

Be Consistent!

This is just common sense. Don't just send one campaign and give up. You need to be consistent. People might need to see your name 20 times before making a decision to work with you. Remember, if you did it right, then this audience is ready for your content and information.

Be Interesting!

Don't just send your audience promotions or events. Make your content interesting and intriguing. Why would someone click on your e-mail and perhaps a link if there wasn't something exciting in it? If you think outside the box and pepper your content with some pizzaz, you're sure to get more eyeballs on your content. Check out this neon Bacon sign... what does it have to do with anything?
